Who We Are
HydroCalc is an independent wellness tool publisher founded in 2026 to make evidence-based hydration guidance easier to use. We are not affiliated with any pharmaceutical company, supplement brand, or health insurer, and the calculator is free to use.
Editorially reviewed against public hydration references
Last methodology review: May 2026 - Sources include National Academies/IOM and WHO guidance.
Our Mission
Most hydration calculators online fall into one of two failure modes: they are either far too simple or buried inside paywalled apps. HydroCalc exists to close that gap. We believe personalized wellness guidance should be instant, free, and require no login - ever.
Our Methodology
Our baseline hydration formula is derived from the dietary reference intakes established by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (IOM) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Every multiplier we use is traceable to a specific published source.
The calculator starts with a weight-based baseline, then adjusts for age, biological sex, activity level, climate, altitude, caffeine intake, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. We keep these adjustments conservative because hydration needs vary widely and because overhydration can be harmful. The result is meant to be a practical daily target, not a medical prescription.
When sources disagree, we prioritize public health references, peer-reviewed reviews, and consensus guidance over commercial wellness claims. We avoid supplement marketing claims, avoid unverifiable expert identities, and clearly label the calculator as a general wellness tool.
Editorial Standards
All content and calculator logic at HydroCalc is reviewed before publication and updated at least once per year. Our review process includes cross-referencing adjustment factors against public health references, checking calculations manually, and documenting the limits of the tool in plain language.
- Every article is written or edited by the HydroCalc Editorial Team.
- Health claims are checked against public agencies, academic references, or clinical review sources.
- Pages are revised when calculator logic, policy pages, or important references change.
- We correct errors when found and avoid presenting general hydration guidance as personalized medical advice.
Primary Sources We Use
Our recurring references include the National Academies dietary reference intakes for water and electrolytes, WHO hydration and sugar guidance, CDC public health education pages, American Academy of Pediatrics guidance for children, and sports medicine consensus material for exercise-related fluid balance.
For a full explanation of our source hierarchy, update process, correction process, and advertising independence, read our Editorial Policy.
Scope and Limitations
HydroCalc is a general wellness tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide clinical advice. If you have kidney disease, heart failure, or are on fluid-restricting medications, please consult your physician for a personalized recommendation.
